Pre-exposure prophylaxis (or PrEP) is when people at risk for HIV take daily medicine to prevent HIV. When taken daily, studies have shown that PrEP reduces the risk of getting HIV from sex by about 99%.

As part of our work in delivering social services to those living with HIV, Tulsa CARES is also deeply committed to educating the community and helping prevent the spread of the virus. For those individuals participating in the Tulsa CARES PrEP Program, we aim to:

• Educate you about the benefits of PrEP
• Connect you to a local prescriber who can determine if PrEP is right for you
• Connect you to our local, LGBTQ+ - friendly pharmacy partner
• Ensure that your medication is paid for through prescription assistance programs
• Help cover all or a portion of your lab work and medial co-pays

Program Eligibility

Individuals participating in the Tulsa CARES PrEP program must:

• Maintain private health insurance
• Test negative for HIV
• Obtain a prescription and agree to regular lab work and medical visits
• Use Couch Pharmacy to fill prescriptions (free local delivery available)

• If you’re ready to receive a prescription, we can recommend providers in the community who can write your prescription.
• If you’re currently on medication and willing to transition your prescription over to Couch Pharmacy, we can help with that too.
• Tulsa CARES can reimburse all or some of your medical co-pays and lab fees associated with medication maintenance.
