Welcome to Tulsa CARES
Tulsa Center for AIDS Resources Education and Support

Our Mission:

Delivering social services to people affected by HIV and AIDS.

Facts:
With the advancement of medicine, many of those infected with HIV/AIDS, are living longer, healthier lives, which in effect created a greater need for support services in this population. According to the Kaiser Family Foundation’s HIV/AIDS Fact Sheet (March 2008),1.2 million people are living with HIV/AIDS in the United States with 40,000 new HIV infections each year, and 25 percent of people who have HIV are unaware of their medical status.

There are approximately 2,178 people living with the HIV infection and 2,108 living with AIDS in Oklahoma, according to the Oklahoma Department of Human Services Fact Sheet, as of Dec. 31, 2006. According to the Community Service Council of Greater Tulsa, it is estimated that nearly 1,700 people are living with HIV/AIDS in the Tulsa Metropolitan area with a growth of 100 new cases each year.
